Remembering the fallen

A commemorative parade replicating the march that would have taken place 100 years ago for young men heading for World War I has been praised by local MP David Simpson.

The event was held at Brownlow House and Mr Simpson said: “This was a very humbling event and one that I believe brought to reality the level of sacrifice that Lurgan and the surrounding area paid 100 years ago.

“I had the great honour as Member of Parliament of laying a wreath to commemorate those who did pay the ultimate sacrifice that we might have our freedom.

“There was a host of events within the Castle from exhibitions, to role plays, to musical entertainment there really was something for all the family. However, threaded throughout it was a real sense of solemnity because of what it was commemorating. I would commend the organisers of the event for hosting such a fitting and successful event.

“I believe it is incumbent on us all to always remember the sacrifice paid that we might have freedom.”
