Remembering victims of Lisburn bombing

The Mayor, Councillor Brian Bloomfield MBE was joined in Market Place by the Chief Executive, Lieutenant Colonel Cannon, fellow elected members, family members of the soldiers and members of the Lisburn Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Wreaths were laid at the plaque by the council, Thiepval Barracks and the Royal British Legion.

The Mayor, Councillor Brian Bloomfield speaking about the wreath-laying, said: “Twenty eight years ago six soldiers lost their lives when a bomb was detonated in Lisburn. The installation of the Plaque on the 25th Anniversary of the attack has provided a fitting memory to those young soldiers who lost their lives.

“I hope that the families here today will take our deepest respects with them as they continue without their loved ones. We all experience loss and trauma in our lives, but the loss of a child must be one of the hardest losses to bear. You mourn for the loss of having and knowing them but also for everything they will never have or be,” he concluded.

The six young men that lost their lives were Sergeant Michael J. Winkler, Lance Corporal William J Paterson, Lance Corporal Graham P. Lambie, Lance Corporal Derek W. Green, Signalman Mark R. Clavey and Corporal Ian Metcalfe.
