Reminder to get on electoral register

HOUSEHOLDS in the Antiville and Ballyloran areas of Larne are to receive a leaflet from the Electoral Office over the next few weeks reminding them of the need to be on the electoral register.

In one of a range of initiatives that the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland will be rolling out in the run-up to the general election, the Newtownabbey Electoral Office - which covers the East Antrim area - has been selected to pilot a scheme reminding people to register or tell the Office of any name or address change.

Around 18,000 households in the constituencies of East Antrim, South Antrim and Belfast North will be receiving a leaflet from the Electoral Office over the next few weeks reminding them of the need to be on the Electoral Register.

During January the leaflets will be distributed to households in the three wards in each of the constituencies with the lowest levels of registration.

Janet Goodall, the Area Electoral Office for Newtownabbey said:

“With the general election now less than six months away it is very important that everyone eligible to vote should make sure that they are registered correctly.

“Registering for the first time or telling us about a change of name or address is very straightforward and only takes a few minutes.”
