John Stewart has already profiled hundreds of servicemen and women from the borough as part of his blog ‘Carrickfergus Roll of Honour’.

He is aiming to use the information to publish a book on the World War One connection early next year. This will be followed by a future edition on World War Two.

Writing on his Facebook page, Cllr Stewart said: “The Carrickfergus Roll of Honour now sits at around 600 pages and is very near completion. I am hoping to get it proofed and edited by Christmas and printed early next year. Before that I will be having a few more appeals for information nights when people can bring along info and pictures of family members who served in the two wars.”

Around a dozen people attended an information evening on Monday, with a second session planned for later this month.

“If anyone has any details of family members who served in any of the armed forces during the First or Second World War I’d like them to get in touch. The intention is to make these books as comprehensive as possible and given their nature I would like to avoid anyone being left out,” Cllr Stewart added.
