Renewed call for CCTV on Union St

Calling for improved CCTV coverage along Union Street, the local Ulster Unionist Councillor said, “Very recently we saw how Carrick Primary School very successfully used CCTV footage to highlight the burglary they suffered, and it certainly showed the power of high quality and accurate CCTV footage.

“On the back of this, I sought to find out from the local police if similar footage was available of the incident in Union Street that had caused in the region of £1,000 worth of damage.

“I was contacted a number of days later by an officer to be told that they had no CCTV footage of the incident as the camera was not covering Union Street at that time.

“According to locals, apparently this is always the case when an incident occurs.”

The attack took place some time during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, November 4-5.

The damage was discovered as Alfie Greenaway went to open up and he too called for a nearby CCTV camera to be pointed along Union Street to help deter thieves and vandals from targeting business along the street.

He’s approached DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart about having a streetlight across the road repaired,
