Renowned beekeeper to speak at Dromore association meeting

Irene Power from South Tipperary will speak at the next monthly meeting of Dromore Beekeepers’ Association in Dromore High School at 7.30pm on Tuesday, August 19.

The subject of her presentation is Making Increase - increasing the number of colonies managed by beekeepers.

A spokesperson said: “All beekeepers are eager to replace losses, due to swarming and disease, before the autumn, so Irene’s presentation is very timely.

“Irene is a Certified Federation of Irish Beekeeping Associations Lecturer who comes from a well-known and successful beekeeping family with many successes in honey shows in Ireland and at the National Honey Show in London.

“She is a member of South Tipperary Beekeepers Association and is currently the Clonmel Honey Show Secretary.

“She has taught on bee keeping beginners courses in counties Limerick and Clare and assists with outdoor demonstrations in South Tipperary.

Irene is a very practical beekeeper, maintaining between 15 and 20 colonies, who also has a keen interest in honeybee health and queen rearing.”
