Report cruelty to animals call

A WOMAN whose cat was killed has urged pet owners to report missing animals to the authorities.

Jill Adams's cat, Clodagh died after a breeze block was thrown into its pen. The Tandragee woman has held public meetings and set-up a petition to highlight cruelty to cats, which she claims is on the rise.

And as we reported in the 'MAIL' last week live traps for cats had been found in the Shankill and Wakehurst areas.

Jill said: "This needs to be highlighted and those responsible need to be stopped.

"Who knows what people will turn to after they have tormented and tortured small animals."

Following reports of several animals missing close to Jill's home, she held a public meeting in Tandragee. She has also set up a petition to get a change in the law.

Jill went on: "So many people have come forward to say their cat is missing.

"They feel they have nowhere to go and no one treats them seriously with their concerns.

"But a cat, or any pet, can become a loved member of the family and a loss can be devastating - and to not know what has happened to that animal can be devastating.

"I have set up a petition to try and get a change in the law, because if a cat is hit by a vehicle there is no way for the owners to be notified."

She added: "My cat was killed and the police are investigating, but for other animals that go missing some owners don't feel they can report it.

"But I would urge anyone to report missing pets to the police, especially if there could be people trapping them to bait dogs.

"If anyone is having a problem with feral, or wild, cats in their area then I would urge them to go to Cats' Protection League. They can neuter feral cats for nothing."

Jill's petition is available to sign in Gentry Barbers in Castle Street, Portadown.
