Reports of ‘drivers racing’ in Magherafelt led to fine for student whose passenger had leg out window

An 18-year-old student has been fined £115 at Magherafelt Magistrates Court after police investigating reports of “drivers racing” in Magherafelt saw his Vauxhall Corsa moving while one his passengers had a leg out the window.

Christopher McFadden, from Ligford Road in Strabane, was seen driving through Garden Street, Hospital Road and Union Street with a couple of friends in his car before officers pulled him over on February 9.

On investigating the incident police also found that the car had no exhaust pipe, and the reason given as to why his friend had a leg out the window was because he suffering from cramp.

District Judge White gave McFadden a £50 fine for having a defective exhaust system, a £50 fine for using his car in a dangerous manner and he was also ordered to pay an offenders levy of £15. He has 12 weeks to pay the fines in full.
