Representation 'simple and numerical'

FROM:- Harry Hamilton.

It is unfortunate that David Simpson equates scrutiny of his record as an MP with personal attacks. I would have hoped that Mr Simpson recognised, respected and could handle legitimate political debate.

Mr Simpson in his latest response far from justifying his record actually proves my point. Summarising Mr Simpson’s own argument it appears that his representation has been simple and numerical.

Mr Simpson tells us that he has signed 2,832 Early Day Motions. However, it is well known that EDMs have only a limited amount of influence in Parliament and can often be less than serious. It would be an interesting study to examine the relationship between the amount of EDMs MPs sign and the amount of influence they actually have at Westminster.

Mr Simpson signed early day motions recognising the ‘importance of nightbus provision particularly in London’; congratulating ‘the House of Commons Culinary Team’; marking the ‘150th anniversary of the marriage between fish and chips’ and wishing ‘Crystal Palace FC the best good fortune in its efforts to re-emerge from administration’.

It is obvious that these EDMs have no relevance to the people of Upper Bann. Mr Simpson’s simple and numerical representation speaks for itself and I can only assume that he reached the same levels of influence and credibility in his contribution to Parliamentary debates and in tabling Parliamentary questions.

Conservative and Unionist candidates are the only candidates that if elected will have real influence on national politics.

Voting for David Simpson and the DUP will mean another five years of shouting from the sidelines.

If lucky enough to be elected I will work tirelessly to represent the people of Upper Bann at the heart of the next Government and at the heart of the Union. The DUP has backed down on double jobbing only because of the pressure that we have put on them. However, Peter Robinson is still clinging by his finger tips to his multiple jobs.

I believe that being an MP for Upper Bann is not about flying between Westminster and Stormont, it is not about signing thousands of EDMs, but it is about consistently and genuinely representing and raising, the real issues of the people of Upper Bann in Parliament.
