Reprieve for town centre traders

The flower seller who trades in the town every Saturday has been given the go-ahead to stay in his Market Street pitch.

Craigavon council have agreed to extend their street trading laws to include him as well as the fish trader on Friday and the egg trader on Saturday.

Councillor Carla Lockhart proposed the change to the laws because the flower seller had other market commitments on a Thursday and included the fish and egg seller.

“It would be a mistake to force these traders out of town,” she said. “I believe they bring footfall into the area.”

Councillor Declan McAlinden said he knew the flower seller’s family and they were ‘very passionate about their business’.

Councillors voted 14-7 in favour of extending the trading laws.
