In her keynote address Ms Seeley called for voters to ensure a maximum electoral turn out at the Westminster election on May 7th, adding that voters in Upper Bann can “Make History Happen”.

In her address, Cllr. Seeley said, “The men and women of 1916, and in the generations proceeding, were History Makers. Standing up for a different future, a different ideal, a change to the status quo.”

She continued, “In 2015, we too have a different ideal for the future; we too have a different outlook which challenges the status quo. We too can ‘Make History Happen’.

“Republicans and nationalists in Upper Bann have an opportunity to challenge for a seat which has since its inception, been held by unionism.

“ A real chance to change the political representation of Upper Bann from the old, more of the same; to a progressive, inclusive voice for all the citizens and for the entire constituency.”

She concluded, “We can make this happen. But only with your help can we can make history happen on Thursday 7th May.”

Meanwhile, dissident republicans staged their own commemoration, firing shots during a show of strength in St Colman’s cemetery..

On Saturday around a dozen masked Continuity IRA members carrying flags led a republican flute band on a procession around the graveyard and onto the North Circular Road.

Three shots were fired into the air, once a gunman figured out the safety catch.
