RES receives Queen’s Award for second time

A LARNE-based company has received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category.

RES, one of the world’s leading independent renewable energy project developers, received the award in recognition of its extraordinary business success in growing revenues from international markets. This is the second Queen’s Award RES has won since 2005.

The company, which employs 20 people, has more than 1GW of onshore wind energy either constructed, under construction or consented in the UK alone. Overseas sales have increased by 352 per cent over the last six years, 80 per cent of which are from North America.

Success in established wind power markets has enabled RES to expand into new wind markets and it has recently achieved its first sales in Canada, Sweden and Turkey.

Since the early 1990s, RES has developed 14 wind farms in Northern Ireland and plans for at least six more are in the pipeline.

Lucy Whitford, head of development for RES in Northern Ireland said: “We are delighted with this award. Winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise is an acknowledgement of RES’s successful model for international operations.

“It also underlines the important role of the renewable energy sector in supporting investment, skills and job creation, both in Northern Ireland and across the UK.”
