Rescue dog Roxy saves owners from blaze

The Rottweiler-Labrador-crossbreed roused her owner Ian Railton from his sleep as a gas-fuelled fire devastated two takeaways right beside their rented home on the Upper Cairncastle Road.

Ian quickly got his fiancee, Ashley Thompson, and their 21-month-old son Callum out of the house before he made his own escape with six-year-old Roxy and then roused neighbours.

"She's now officially the best dog in the world," said Ian, still shaken after the events of the early hours of last Tuesday when both the Hillstop chip shop and the Red Sea Chinese takeaway went up in flames in a fire which is still under police investigation.
