Rescue team issue timely weather advice

FOLLOWING the recent spate of early snow and ice, the members of North West Mountain Rescue have issued advice to walkers, climbers and everyone venturing outdoors.

Team leader, John Binns, said that the team members were concerned that some people may not be properly equipped or experienced in dealing with the early winter conditions.

"It is very important that people prepare properly for walking in snow and ice. Journey times will be longer, the weather and visibility can deteriorate rapidly and conditions under foot can be treacherous.

"The Team urge walkers and outdoor users to notify friends of their intended location or route and to notify of an expected return time," he said.

He went on to reveal that the North West Mountain Rescue team have already been mobilised twice this year to assist trapped motorists, and he advised anyone who really must travel in winter conditions to carry an extra car rug, warm clothing, snacks and a torch.

The Team will be publishing up to date advice on their website www.nwmrt.org.
