Resident threw glass at Praxis staff member

A woman in a care facility threw a pint glass at a member of staff and damaged a Hi-Fi and pictures, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

Monica Thompson, (38), whose address was given to the court as Castle Lane, Lurgan, admitted unlawful assault and criminal damage on May 1 this year.

The court heard that at 6pm police received a report of an assault on a member of staff at Praxis Care which is shared accommodation for people with mental health difficulties.

A resident was being violent and damaging property.

Thompson had thrown a pint glass at a staff member who got behind a door and the glass hit the door.

She then swiped a Hi-Fi system to the floor and also damaged three picture frames which she took from the wall.

It cost approximately £150 to replace the damaged items.

A solicitor representing the defendant said that she accepted she threw the glass but had difficulty understanding the assault charge which was because a person had been put under apprehension of assault.

The defendant had a record for previous offences.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said there was an inevitable
progression which the court had to do something to prevent.

He adjourned sentencing until January 8 next year so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.
