Residents demand action to slow speeding traffic

HALFTOWN Residents’ Association staged a protest last Friday afternoon against speeding traffic on the Halftown Road.

They fear that if they do not get new calming measures to slow down traffic someone could be seriously injured or killed.

The protest was designed to highlight what they say is the growing problem of speeding and dangerous driving on the road.

Residents from Coronation Gardens, Halftown and Maze congregated to call for the speed limit on the road to be lowered to 30mph as well as new traffic calming measures.

They have also asked that a new road infrastructure be created to cope with growing volume of traffic. They have said that the owners of haulage companies and local businesses also need to take responsibility for what is happening and implement measures to help alleviate the growing problems

The chairman of the Halftown Residents’ Assocation said: “For many years we have been campaigning for traffic calming measures to be introduced on the Halftown Road. This has fallen on deaf ears as nobody appears willing to take action and introduce the appropriate measures to ensure the safety of residents.

“There have already been a number of accidents on the road and if action is not taken immediately it is only going to be a matter of time before somebody is seriously injured or killed.
