Residents outraged after cars are ‘keyed’ by vandals

Five vehicles parked on the Glebe Road in Carnmoney were ‘keyed’ and street signs were also damaged in the wrecking spree on Saturday night (September 15).

Keying is when a key or sharp object is scraped along the paintwork of a vehicle.

The resident, who did not want to be named, was sickened by the attack on people’s property.

He said the car owners would now have to fork out large sums of money to get their motors repaired.

The man said: “Why should innocent people have to pay for these mindless destructive acts?”

He has appealed for the public’s help in assisting police to catch the culprits.

The resident added: “Although the police interviewed the residents, I would urge any of your readers if they have seen or heard anything that would bring these destructive thugs to justice to contact the police.”

A police spokesperson also called on the public to help officers with their inquiries.

She added: “Police in Newtownabbey received a report that two cars had been keyed in the Glebe Road area at around 8.40am on Sunday.

“Upon arrival police found that three other vehicles had also been damaged in a similar manner.

“Officers believe the damage was caused overnight between Saturday 15 and the time of the report and they are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area or who has any information that could assist the investigation.”
