“Conexpo have had no meaningful engagement to date with residents during the pre application process and the completion of their initial feasibility study. This meeting will be the first opportunity residents will have to find out about the quarry proposal, although we will not be able to ask questions.”

She went onto say, “This is a tranquil rural green field site and there is no justification for a new quarry on fertile farming land.

“Extensions to existing quarries should always be favoured over the development of new greenfield sites in order to minimise adverse environmental impacts

“A quarry in this location will result in loss of amenity for nearby residents in terms of noise, vibration and dust. There are also concerns about water pollution. “It would also have an adverse impact on existing equine, dairy and tourism businesses. Lorries would be exiting onto a protected route close to a bad corner which would prejudice the safety of other drivers

“This is a species rich habitat and the development of a quarry in this location would have a devastating effect on the rural environment

“There is no requirement for a new quarry given the current over capacity within the quarry industry. As a rural community faced with a planning proposal for a quarry on adjacent farmland we are passionately committed to protecting our countryside.”

Conexpo are expected to reveal their findings of a study. at the meeting.
