Residents set to recycle more

THIS YEAR Ballymena residents will see a change in how recycled waste is collected in the Borough.

From April 2012 Ballymena Borough Council will be introducing changes that will see blue bins removed and replaced by an additional kerbside box, which will be collected weekly.

The new black kerbie box will be collected on the same day as the current red kerbie box.

In addition to increased recycling capacity, residents will now be able to recycle more at their door, with additional items being collected in the black kerbie box.

These new materials include paper, mixed plastics (yoghurt pots, butter tubs etc) and Tetra Paks (juice cartons) and will only be accepted once residents have received their black kerbie box.

Recycling these new waste streams will help us as well as reducing the volumes of waste sent to landfill.

Anyone who may experience difficulties bringing their boxes to the roadside should contact the Operational Services Department of Ballymena Borough Council on (028) 25660 465/466.

The roll out of this new service will happen from April and residents will receive further information regarding the changes prior to it taking place in their area.
