Residents sew energy efficient

The event, funded by the Public Health Agency was organised by Ballymoney Borough Council as part of its work to promote energy efficiency and tackle fuel poverty within the borough.

Leah Glass, Poverty Strategy Coordinator explained that the event was the first of its kind to take place within the Northern area and therefore provided a unique opportunity for the participants from within the Borough who took part.

The event provided participants with information on how to be more energy efficient at home, helping them to save money on household heating and electricity bills which is a priority for most people at the minute due to the economical climate.

As well as listening to a lot of useful advice and information, participants were also given the opportunity to take part in a practical workshop where they made their own draught excluders.

The workshop was facilitated by Roisin McAteer from local business ProCraftyNation.

Rosie Watson, the Energy Efficiency Adviser for Ballymoney Borough Council explained that this is just one example of a low cost, practical measure that can help you save energy and money at home.

She explained in a statement to the Times: “We often don’t realise that we can be much more energy efficient by just implementing a number of simple measures in our own homes.

“A lot of people are still unaware that there are a number of grants available for home insulation which has a massive impact on heating your home. The energy efficiency adviser can provide you with information on eligibility and refer you to grant schemes where applicable.”

Attendees also took part in an information session with Fiona Fingleton from Causeway Citizens Advice Bureau, who gave them essential information on benefits awareness and maximising income.
