Residents voice fears on town’s future

BALLYMONEY residents have been voicing their concerns regarding the town with many calling for more investment and opportunities urgently.

Last week we told how local man Jay Hanna’s video showing numerous derelict sites throughout the town was racking up hundreds of hits on YouTube.

Jay said he made the video to highlight the current plight of his home town of over 50 years.

And the story provoked a large response from our readers who said the video had brought home the scale of the blight on the town caused by rundown buildings and sites.

A lot of people expressed their discontent on the Times’ facebook site.

A selection of those comments read:

Joan Shannon: Well it’s all true but we just notice bits of it every day. Shocking shown like that.

David Thompson: The pictures speak for themselves. Is there a more run down town in Northern Ireland?

Iain McAfee: Years of abject incompetence and ignorance of reality has is now coming to the fore. The great little town which I was attracted to now only has its people as a strength unfortunately.

Coleraine Twinning: Sad to see this happen to such a lovely town, with great people.

Alfie Archibald: It’s a total disgrace, having lived in Ballymoney all my life I have noticed the decline of what was once a great wee town.

Paschal O’Sullivan: A depressing and sorry story when you see it in one video.

Tommy Blair: It’s sad that Jay’s video has brought to light how this once great wee town has fallen into such a terrible state. No jobs and no hope.
