The busy section of the A2 is a route for many early morning heavy goods vehicles serving local industry.

And according to East Antrim MLA Roy Beggs, a number of people have been complaining about the noise generated.

The Ulster Unionist representative said: “In particular the noise from empty HGVs over the numerous repairs have been disturbing residents sleep patterns. I welcome the decision to resurface this poor surfaced main road and the decision to carry out the work during the quieter summer period.”

Mr Beggs urged road users to be patient as the work is undertaken and to recognise that Transport NI, by commencing the scheme over the summer, is trying to minimise delays.

A spokesperson for Transport NI advised “ I can confirm that the A2 Larne Road between Victoria Road and Trailcock Road has been programmed for resurfacing this summer.”
