Today’s results at Lurgan College have been described as ‘outstanding’ by the school’s principal.

Mr Trevor Robinson expressed delight at yet another set of ‘outstanding individual and collective performances’ by his talented Year 12 pupils in their GCSE examinations.

He said: “With over 98% of the year group achieving the top grades of A*-C in at least five subjects, which is well in excess of the NI Grammar School average, this is another remarkable year of academic success at the 14-19 selective grammar school.

““The 100% pass rate meant that, once again, not a single fail grade was recorded in any of the numerous subjects offered at GCSE.

Carrying on the College Walk school’s fine tradition of wonderful academic excellence, six extremely talented pupils secured 11 A*/A grades each. Such is the academic calibre of pupils who commit year on year to the very successful Dickson Plan system of education with its unique system of academic selection at age 14.

Mr Robsinson said: “Replicating the outstanding results at A Level by their Year 14 counterparts last week, the 2016 cohort of Year 12 pupils has produced some of the very best GCSE performances in the College’s prestigious 143 year history.

“I commend and congratulate our very diligent pupils, their highly committed teachers and their, at times, longsuffering parents on these quite remarkable examination performances.

“Once again I am keen to acknowledge the sterling work done by our colleagues in Lurgan Junior High School and in our local feeder primary schools who continue to furnish year on year our popular 14-19 selective Grammar School with able, mature and conscientious pupils of the very highest academic ability.”

We will carry full reaction from the rest of the town’s school as they respond to our queries.
