“Resurfacing of the road and footpath at Abbeyville Park and Abbeyville Gardens has been identified as a priority scheme. It will be included in the programme for this coming year and will feature in the Spring Report to Newtownabbey Council,” a DRD spokesperson told the Times this week.

DUP Councillor Thomas Hogg welcomed the confirmation that work to resurface the footpaths in Abbeyville Park and footpaths and carriageway in Abbeyville Gardens is programmed for completion in the current financial year.

“Alongside local residents, I have been lobbying Roads Service for some considerable time about the very poor standard of footpaths and carriageway in the area.

“My colleague, Nigel Dodds MP and I recently met with some local residents in the area and I know that they are delighted to have received this very positive news. I have no doubt that this investment will greatly enhance the Abbeyville area,” he said.

“Whilst Roads Service naturally focus their resources on roads with a high volume of traffic, it is important that residential streets are maintained to a decent standard. This is good news for Abbeyville but we will continue to lobby for other areas where we are aware of local concerns,” Cllr Hogg added.
