Retailers and MLAs discuss city future

A DELEGATION of independent retailers has met with all six of the Foyle MLAs at Stormont to discuss the future of Londonderry city centre.

The event was organised by the Derry City Centre Traders Forum and the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association.

In a joint statement Martin McCrossan Chair of the DCCTF Glyn Roberts Chief Executive of NIIRTA said: "This was a very productive meeting at which all six of the Foyle MLAs were made very aware of the many problems facing Derry City Centre.

"Problems such as planning, car parking, out of town retailing, rates, transport and a number of other issues were discussed"

"There is now a cross party consensus on the need to tackle the challenges facing independent retailers in the city and we will shortly be producing our own action plan for tackling those problems"

"We greatly appreciate the fact that six of the local MLAs made the effort to attend and we will be seeking a further meeting soon"
