Revealed: The date Howell murder drama begins...

One of the most eagerly awaited TV dramas of the year about the infamous Colin Howell murders will air on April 29, the Coleraine Times can reveal.

ITV show The Secret is a four-part drama which follows the shocking real life story of a double murder which shocked Coleraine and Northern Ireland.

The drama sees local actor play Colin Howell, a respectable Ballymoney dentist and pillar of the community, who became a killer in partnership with a Sunday school teacher, Hazel Stewart - played by Genevieve O’Reilly.

The lovers murdered their partners in 1991 and their story will be told in the riveting series.

Howell and Stewart had an affair and then plotted to kill their other halves Lesley Howell and Trevor Buchanan.

The first episode will air on ITV on Friday, April 29.

Director Nick Murphy revealed on Twitter “The Secret is a 4 part series I’ve directed and it starts on ITV on 29th April. It’s good tbh.”

Howell was sentenced to 21 years for the self-confessed killing of his nurse wife Lesley and RUC constable Trevor Buchanan, his lover’s devoted husband.

The Secret, which was filmed in locations across Northern Ireland, was written by Bafta-winner Stuart Urban and is directed by Nick Murphy.
