Revealed: the six accident hot spots

POLICE have highlighted the six "hot spots" at which most traffic collisions occur in the Borough.

The issue was raised at last Monday’s District Policing Partnership meeting in Garvagh when a member of the DPP asked for information on how police target and detect careless driving.

PSNI District Commander Nicky Thompson told the meeting that most collisions happen between 6am and 6pm.

This correlates, he said, with the obvious rush hour traffic times before school runs and evening home time journeys.

He also revealed that there are six “hot spots” where most collisions occur:

- the Ring Road in Coleraine (from the Lodge Road roundabout to the Portrush Road roundabout);

- Newbridge Road particularly at Damhead Road;

- Atlantic Road particularly at Islandtasserty;

- Ballybogey Road towards the Royal Court Hotel;

- Dunhill Road particularly at the Greenmount roundabout;

- Cloyfin Road.

Chief Inspector Thompson also told the meeting that officers are deployed at the peak times in a bid to clamp down on careless driving.
