Revised scheme for Holy Trinity Church

REVISED plans have been prepared for Holy Trinity Church in the centre of Ballycastle.

The original scheme, which planners were of the opinion to refuse, had created much controversy.

Critics said the size of a new hall as part of the scheme would dramatically alter the iconic view of the church and The Diamond in Ballycastle.

Ulster Unionist councillor Helen Harding told a meeting of Moyle Council the church authorities had been in touch and asked if councillors would meet with consultants to go over the new plans.

A critic of the original scheme, Sinn Fein councillor Cathal Newcombe, said he will attend the meeting.

He hoped the new plans are radically different from what was first proposed as he said the original plans looked like a “silo”.

Recently he said the original plans were a “monstrosity”.

The Holy Trinity Church at the Diamond often features in photos of Ballycastle.
