Ricky and Thorny saddle up for more fun

A VERY special little pony fan has been given a real treat.

Seven-year-old Larne boy Ricky Morrow, who has dystronic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, really enjoys his trips to the Rocklynn Riding Stables in Islandmagee where he loves to meet up with his favourite pony, Thorny.

All Ricky’s limbs are affected by his condition, along with his head and neck. He also suffers from epilepsy and severe learning difficulties.

Ricky’s riding lessons help strengthen his back and enhance his posture. However, because of his disabilities, he has difficulty sitting up and has to be held on the pony’s back.

A fundraising drive was set up to help buy a specially-made saddle so the little boy can make the most out of his riding experience.

A recent all-day fun event at the Islandmagee stables was held to help raise funds to make his dream come true - and not only now has Thorny been fully kitted out with new tack by Robert Patton of Old Mill Saddlery, a cheque for the handsome sum of £1,200 has been donated to the Children’s Hospice.

Throughout the day there was a variety of events for all the family - with proceeds going to the worthy cause.
