Rifles ‘should get the freedom of city’

NI21 spokesman Neil McNickle says Lisburn Council should honour 2nd Battalion, The Rifles Regiment with the freedom of Lisburn ahead of their move to Thiepval Barracks.

Mr McNickle said: “The young riflemen of 2nd have endured some of the toughest fighting seen by the British Army since World War 2. They have taken casualties and still did their duty in difficult circumstances.

“It would be right and proper given that Lisburn honours the Regiment in this way. It would be a tremendous way to welcome the Regiment to their new home in the town.”
