Ringing in the New Year on The Walls

LONDONDERRY Rotary Club in association with Bright Brand New Day and First Derry Presbyterian Church, will be among the first to ring out 2012 and welcome 2013 tonight, with a bell ringing event on the ancient Walls adjacent to the church.

The Rotary Club of Londonderry and Bright Brand New Day are working in partnership during 2013 to create a culture of peace across Derry-Londonderry and beyond.

The Rotary Club of Londonderry, founded in 1922, is a dynamic network of friends actively working on worthwhile community projects that make a difference, at home and abroad. During May 2013 local Rotarians, in association with Incore at the University of Ulster, will host a Global Peace Forum in Derry-Londonderry. This Forum will add energy to the NI Peace Process and also to global initiatives aspiring to build lasting peace.

Bright Brand New Day(BBND) is a bespoke Peace Building Initiative for Derry-Londonderry, comprising a seies of monthly conversations at different venues on either side of the Foyle addressing difficult and divisive issues in the company of noteworthy national and international speakers. BBND will progressively prepare the city for a unique public event scheduled for Sunday 19th May 2013. The World Peace Flame will be officially ‘switched on’ during this event.

Meanwhile, tonight at 6pm on the Walls outside First Derry Church, the Londonderry Rotary Club Bell will ring out a message of hope for all the citizens of Derry-Londonderry.
