RIP Darren Robb: Heroic sailor and fundraiser

Darren Robb, the heroic Londonderry sailor and fundraiser, sadly passed away on Tuesday (December 2).

Earlier this year Darren fulfilled his dream of sailing around Ireland to raise money for cancer research.

Darren was diagnosed with neck cancer in 2011 and planned his circumnavigation, in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support, with the cancer seemingly in remission earlier this year.

In the run up to setting sail, the Coshquin-native, who had been living in the Waterside, was told the cancer had returned and spread and that he only had months to live.Despite this blow Darren defied his illness and completed his sail during the month of July.He died in the Foyle Hospice on Tuesday.

He’ll be buried in Faughan Church of Ireland on Friday (December 5) alongside his brother Henry who died in Darren’s arms when his heart was stopped by a blood clot just under six years ago.
