Riverdance countdown gets underway

THE countdown is on at the Millennium Forum for the Londonderry debut performance of one of the world's most iconic dance extravaganzas, when Riverdance, arrives for five shows only from Friday 3 to Sunday, September 5 for its only Northern Irish dates on the current tour. The Forum has just announced that Padraic Moyles and Maria Buffini will be the two lead dancers in this breathtaking production.

Originally from Dublin, Padraic Moyles joined Riverdance in London in 1997 and has toured with the show throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe. His career to date has also seen him perform with artists such as Nelly, Ja Rule, Ellen DeGeneres, Shania Twain, The Chieftains and Cher in concerts, film video and television. In 2006, Padraic was the Dance Captain and performer in the Broadway production of ‘The Pirate Queen’.

Maria Buffini began dancing at the tender age of four with the O’Shea School in Dublin. She joined the Riverdance team in 2004 and has since danced with the company in Ireland, Europe, America, Japan and Taiwan.

Chief Executive of the Millennium Forum, David McLaughlin, said: “We are delighted to be finally bringing this phenomenal and world-class show to our stage for its debut performance at our venue. It has enjoyed sell-out audiences across the world during its fifteen year history and I’m sure that local audiences here will welcome it to our city with great enthusiasm. Aptly described as a ‘once in a lifetime experience’, this is one show that will, most definitely, have locals talking for some time after. Also, with the city now celebrating the winning bid for the UK City of Culture 2013, we can look forward to welcoming many more top class acts to our stage for the benefit of the North West region and beyond. ”

Of all the performances to emerge from Ireland in the past decade, nothing has carried the energy, the sensuality and the spectacle of Riverdance. Experienced by over 22 million people worldwide across four continents and boasting a worldwide television audience in excess of two billion people - Riverdance is a truly global phenomenon.

An innovative and exciting fusion of Irish and international dance, Riverdance propels traditional dance and music into the present day, capturing the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures. Don’t miss your chance to see the show rightly described by the Irish Times as "the original... the best" and experience the magic that is Riverdance!

RIVERDANCE will perform at the Millennium Forum from Friday 3 to Sunday, September 5. Tickets are now available from the Box Office. Telephone 71 264455 or visit www.millenniumforum.co.uk for details.
