A waste firm with sites in Londonderry, Garvagh and Portadown has received an Innovation Award at the Causeway Coast and Glens Business Awards.

Pamela Jordan, Business Development Manager, RiverRidge Recycling, commented: “We are extremely proud to win this award. “Innovation is key in our business. In the last year we have added several new technological and energy efficient systems to our site in Garvagh.

“A landfill gas generator which channels and collects the landfill gases, then creates power to run the plant and any excess is given to the grid for distribution.

“We also introduced a leachate treatment plant where the liquid that drains of the landfill is collected and treated.

“The end goal is the grey water is recycled and used on site for wheel and vehicle washing and minimised the water usage from the mains.

“This has immensely lessened the impact on the environment and the local community.

The judges final comment included that RiverRidge has used innovation and technology to grow income, save costs and explore new markets to protect the environment to great effect and that innovation runs through every aspect of this excellent business.

RiverRidge Recycling, with sites in Garvagh, Portadown and Derry-Londonderry, has become an example of best practice and innovation in the waste management industry. By introducing and utilising new technologies, exploring and deploying new ways to use renewable energy and providing value-for-money services that avoid landfill.
