Road improvements to Cookstown 100 circuit

Roads along the route of the Cookstown 100 motorcycle race are to be improved ahead of this year’s event.

Mid-Ulster Ulster Unionists Sandra Overend MLA and Cookstown Councillor Trevor Wilson have welcomed a commitment to make a number of improvements to the route of the Cookstown 100 road race, by their party colleague, Roads Minister Danny Kennedy MLA, following a meeting held with officials from Cookstown Motorcycle Club.

Mrs Overend commented,

“The Roads Minister Danny Kennedy has once again demonstrated that he is willing to take on board issues raised and act upon them, and on this occasion took the time to come to the constituency to listen to the concerns highlighted by the Cookstown and District Motorcycle Club at first hand. I welcome his decision to carry out a number of repairs the Cookstown 100 route.

“The Ulster Unionist Minister has given a commitment to make improvements to various sections of the Orritor Road, which includes work being carried out to standards over and above that required for normal road use.

“This will ensure that the safety of those involved in the road races will be improved, and indeed will bring benefits to the wider community of Cookstown, who use the road on a daily basis.”
