Speaking following the commencement of the work, DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart said: “I am absolutely delighted that the resurfacing work has started on the Glenfield Road in the Mourneview estate.

“This has been an old chestnut to crack but I am delighted that Road Service has acceded to my numerous requests and has agreed to resurface the stretch of road in its entirety.

“This has been a long battle and I would commend the many residents for their assistance and support in bringing this to light. We are delighted with the outcome.”

She added: “As a local councillor I have lobbied hard for resurfacing in the Hospital, Mourneview and Grey Estate area. I am delighted that the Hospital Estate has been completed, and now a very real start on the Mourneview roads and footways. I will not stop with Glenfield Road, my next two roads will be Darling Avenue and Brookhill.

“I have sought assurances that in the New Year serious consideration will be given to resurfacing both of these roads and to that end I will be seeking delivery from Road Service.”
