Road scheme for Aghalee

Lagan Valley MLA Brenda Hale has welcomed an announcement from Transport Minister Michelle McIlveen, that a Northern Ireland Executive funded £85,000 road improvement scheme on the Soldierstown Road is set to begin at the end of the month

The scheme which is due to begin on Monday, November 30 is expected to be completed by Monday, December 14.

The resurfacing works will extend for a distance of over half a mile from Drumbane Road towards A26 Glenavy Road.

Transport Minister Michelle McIlveen said: “This significant investment will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the road and help resolve ongoing maintenance issues associated with the road.”

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors a road closure will be necessary with a diversion in operation via Lower Ballinderry.

As with all improvement schemes of this type the planned dates are subject to favourable weather conditions.

TransportNI has planned the works and traffic management arrangements to minimise any inconvenience, however, drivers should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.

Mrs Hale said, “This announcement is welcome news. The improvement of our local road infrastructure in Lagan Valley continues to be a priority for myself and I look forward to working with the new Transport Minister in the months ahead.”
