Roads Service investing £7.8m in improvements

Roads Service is investing a total of £7.8million for road improvement and maintenance schemes in the Lisburn City Council area this year.

Speaking ahead of a meeting between Roads Service and Lisburn City Council, Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy set out Roads Service’s progress on the works.

He said: “A wide range of road improvement and maintenance schemes is planned or already complete in the Lisburn City Council area.

“Schemes completed include extensive carriageway resurfacing for Dromara Village with both phases one and two of these works now finalised.

“Resurfacing schemes at Prince William Road roundabouts and both carriageway and footway resurfacing works at Warren Gardens are now concluded.

“Additional major resurfacing schemes are currently underway with works at Culcavy Road in progress.

“The autumn round of Council meetings is a timely opportunity for Councils to discuss potential schemes and priorities.”

At the meeting, Deputy Divisional Roads Manager Roy Spiers highlighted a number of improvement and maintenance schemes currently planned or progressed.

Mr Spiers welcomed expenditure on structural maintenance which had allowed the Division to deliver many needed projects including over 9.1km of carriageway resurfacing incorporating works completed at Glenavy Road, Station Road from Haddockstown to North Street and Belsize Road.

Resurfacing schemes including Comber Road and Ballymacash Road are in progress with further works programmed for Seymour Street/Queens Road, Ventnor Park and Hillview Avenue.

Mr Spiers said: “I am pleased to note the recent completion of the minor works scheme on the A26 Moira Road which provides a right turn pocket for vehicles turning right from the A26 into Main Street, Glenavy.

“In addition, a Safer Routes to School Scheme has been completed at Largymore Primary School, Lisburn.”
