Roads Service responds about camper vans

ROADS Service has responded to Moyle Council about the issue of camper vans parking at Mary Street in Ballycastle during the Lammas Fair.

Divisional Roads Manager Deirdre Mackle said: ‘We are very aware of the issues regarding camper vans parking in seafront locations particularly during public events.

‘Legislation does not allow us to single out camper vans. The only way that we could restrict them from parking on Mary Street would be introduce waiting restrictions for all vehicles.

‘We have just introduced limited waiting in the Lansdowne Road area of Portrush after 9pm. Large numbers of camper vans use this area throughout the summer. It remains to be seen whether enforcement can be effectively carried out, particularly during major events.

‘It is very unlikely that we would introduce restrictions over such a short period and we would wish to assess the effectiveness of the Portrush restrictions before introducing further proposals,’ said the letter.
