Roadshow reveals vehicle safety issues

More than 90 motorists took advantage of the free car safety and maintenance checks on offer at the annual Newtownabbey Vehicle Roadshow on Saturday, October 12.

The event, held in the B&Q/Tesco car park at Abbey Retail Park on Church Road, was organised by Newtownabbey Borough Council, in conjunction with Newtownabbey Road Safety Committee.

Staff from Magowan Tyres and Car-Tech in Mallusk were on hand to carry out tyre safety checks and headlamp beam assessments, while council staff offered vehicle emissions testing.

Mrs Pat Martin, Chair of Newtownabbey Road Safety Committee, revealed that 97 motorists attended this year’s Vehicle Roadshow.

“Around 34 per cent of the cars would have failed the MOT due to headlight issues, however Car-Tech staff corrected all the faults free of charge. About 20 per cent would have failed due to worn tyres,” she explained.

“We really appreciate the support Car-Tech and Magowan Tyres give to the roadshow.”
