Roadworks ahead

It’s a case of roadworks ahead around Lisburn with a number of resurfacing schemes due to start shortly in the area.

Work will start on a £160,000 resurfacing scheme on Ballymacash Road, Lisburn next week.

The work is due to begin on October 7 between Prince William Road and Killowen Park, Transport Minister Danny Kennedy announced.

The Minister said: “This scheme will increase the life of the road, greatly improving the strength and ride quality of the carriageway along this busy route.”

Works on Ballymacash Road will start each morning from approximately 9.30am and continue until 4.30pm each evening. During these works a one way closure will be in place with access restricted in the direction of the Antrim Road. Diversions will be signed accordingly.

The scheme is expected to be complete by November 1.

During the final phase of the works, a full closure will be in place for one day to ensure the safety of road users and the operation on site.

Also starting on Monday is a £140,000 resurfacing improvement scheme at Hillsborough Road between Ballygowan Road and Tullyhubbert Road.

Works on Hillsborough Road will begin each morning from approximately 9.30am and continue until 4.30pm. During works, a full closure will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and the operation on site. Diversion routes will be signed accordingly.

The scheme is expected to be complete by November 21.

And a new £300,000 resurfacing scheme got underway this week along the Comber Road, Lisburn.

The work began on Tuesday and will include the stretch between Ravarnet Road and Upper Ballynahinch Road.

Work on the Comber Road will start each morning from approximately 9.30am and will continue until 4.30pm each evening.

During these road works traffic will be restricted to one lane for two weeks.

Motorists are asked to be patient during this time.

A full closure for a further three weeks will be in place from October 16.

This is expected to facilitate the final phase of the works and ensure the safety of road users and the operation on site.

The scheme is expected to be complete by November 6.

All the above planned dates are subject to favourable weather conditions and Roads Service will keep the public informed of any change.

Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
