Robert Johnstoneof Loughbrickland is laid to rest

Loughbrickland man Robert John Johnston has been laid to rest after passing away suddenly.

Mr Johnston of 6 Carrick Road died on Monday May 26.

He was the dearly loved son of Ida and the late John Johnston.

Robert went to school at Fourtowns and then on to Portadown. After leaving school he became interested in the farming district and was big into horses having competed in many competitions in the horse carriage driving. He competed in and qualified for the World Championship in 2013 at Windsor Castle.

Robert ran a partnership business with Paddy Hughes known as ‘Horse First’ but his main interest was centred around his home and family.

He sustained a great loss just one year ago on the May 2 when his father passed away.

Robert was a member of Poyntzpass Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his mother, brother Brian, Brian’s partner Hilda, two nieces Tracey and Jenna and a great niece Sophie.

The funeral took place from his home on Thursday May 29 for a service in Poyntzpass Presbyterian Church which was conducted by the Rev. Mark Wilson.

The Church and Church Hall were full with many people standing outside. The hymns ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’ and ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ were sung.

Mrs. Olive Knox presided at the organ.

The interment took place in the adjoining Churchyard. Family flowers were placed on the grave.

William Bell and Co. had charge of the funeral arrangements.
