The 18-year-old Lurgan girl was living in supported accommodation in Mount Zion House in Lurgan before starting The Prince’s Trust’s Team programme. Roberta had left home and had been unemployed for two years; she lacked confidence and was unsure what she wanted to do with her life. She now lives in Garland Avenue.

The experience of working in a large group helped Roberta develop the skills and qualities needed to work as part of a team and understand how her actions affect the community and people around her.

Whilst Roberta was on the team programme she developed skills in team working, communication, confidence, time management, negotiation, leadership, problem solving, helping others, and presentation.

Roberta’s confidence has grown significantly from being on the Team programme and she would like to start a Beauty Therapy course and plans to own her own mobile beauty business within the next five years.

The Prince’s Trust works with 14 to 30-year-olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. In Northern Ireland, over 3,000 young people each year are supported through practical help including training, mentoring and financial assistance.
