Roberta retires after 45 years

COLLEAGUES of a Larne midwife have wished her a healthy and happy retirement after 45 years service to the NHS.

Staff midwife Roberta Burns – who was based at OPD4 Antrim Hospital – retired last week. She had previously worked for many years in the Moyle’s maternity unit.

Roberta began her nursing career in Belfast City Hospital in 1965 and after obtaining her state registration, she moved to the Royal Maternity to complete her state-certified midwife qualification.

Roberta worked in the Moyle maternity unit from 1969 until its closure in 1994, when she moved to Antrim maternity.

Married to Max, with two children, Elaine and Alistair and two grandchildren, Roberta has travelled the world and is a keen gardener. She has lived in Larne since she married in 1969.

Her colleagues in OPD4 described her as a “dedicated and conscientious midwife who will be greatly missed”.

Wishing her a healthy and happy retirement, her colleagues say all who worked with Roberta have been “richly blessed by her comradeship and professionalism”.
