Principal John Madden told the Larne Times he was “shocked and delighted” by the generosity of those associated with Greenisland Primary.

He added: “I had to look at the amount on the cheque twice when I read out the fabulous figure of £3,000 to the Roddensvale pupils in assembly. We have already ordered picnic tables, which are wheelchair friendly, for the entire school community to enjoy at the back of the senior and junior school on the strength of this very kind and welcome donation.

“We are still debating how best to utilize the remainder of the money from Greenisland Primary and we are considering a therapy seat for the sensory garden.

“It is donations like this one that allow us to buy the extra items which our budget just cannot support.

“It is these additional specialist items which augment what we aspire to achieve for pupils at Roddensvale and make all the difference.”

One of the pupils at Roddensvale, Ross McCaffrey, has siblings at Greenisland Primary, but Principal Brian Stirling was keen to stress that pupils, staff and the extended Greenisland community were only too delighted to get behind fund raising for all the pupils in Roddensvale.

Staff and pupils from both schools hope this will be the start of a long-running association between the two schools for many years
to come.
