Roddensvale pupils set for the big stage

PUPILS of Roddensvale School are preparing to perform alongside the Ulster Orchestra at a multimedia arts show in Belfast's Waterfront Hall.

A group of 14 children from the school are to be involved in Sea Pictures, a unique and inspiring event celebrating the talents of young people from schools across the Province.

Using music and dance, Sea Pictures will tell the tale of a storm at sea. Some of the Roddensvale pupils will be involved in percussion, some will dance, and some will take part in a choreographed wheelchair finale.

One lucky pupil, Nicola Grant, has even written a poem for the event, which will be recited at the start of the show alongside a new piece of music composed by Kilwaughter’s Elaine Agnew.

Brendan McAfee, arts teacher at Roddensvale, is delighted that the school has been asked to take part in such a prestigious event. He added: “There will be 15 schools involved and about 200 pupils on stage at one point. I am very excited about it and look forward to seeing our kids perform on such a big stage.

“It is also fantastic that Nicola’s poem will be opening the show. It will be great to her voice through the loudspeakers at the Waterfront and should be a very beautiful moment.”

Sea Pictures takes place on Tuesday, March 23 at 7pm. Tickets cost 8, or 5 concession. A family ticket is also available for 20, which will admit two adults and two children. To book, contact the Waterfront box office on 028 9033 4455.
