Mr Swann was joined by UUP councillor Tom McKeown and local representative Darryl Wilson in his campaign to improve road safety in the area.

Mr Wilson said: “One of the many issues is the lack of a School Crossing Patrol at the Rodeing Foot, where Ballymoney High School and Leaney Primary School pupils and parents have to cross a busy road.

“We contacted the North Eastern Education and Library Board and requested that a survey of the road be carried out to see if it met the criteria for a lollipop man. In their response the board informed me that a survey of the site would be carried out and we in the UUP are pleased to learn that the crossing has qualified and as soon as the recruitment process is carried out, someone will be put in place,” said Mr Wilson.

UUP Councillor Tom McKeown, Chairperson of the Ballymoney Road Safety Committee, said: “The Committee had expressed concern some months previously that the School Crossing Patrol at the dangerous junction of Rodeing Foot and Ballymena Road had been removed.

“Following successful campaigning this valuable crossing has been restored, significantly increasing the safety of young people crossing at this very busy road.

“Ballymoney Road Safety Committee is also delighted to learn that the School Crossing Patrol attendant who retired recently at Model Road is to be replaced in the near future, this again being a very busy and dangerous road and junction,” said Councillor McKeown.

Meanwhile, Mr Swann said: “I have also enquired about the vacancy for a School Crossing Patrol at the Model Road crossing after a long serving lollipop man retired in the last number of weeks. We have confirmation that it will be maintained despite local fears.”
