Roe Valley chief is re-appointed to USEL board

CHAIR of the Roe Valley Enterprise Agency Brian McMurray will remain on the board of Ulster Supported Employment Limited (USEL) until January 2013 at least after Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry extended his tenure.

The extension takes effect from January 1, 2012 for a period of one year. Mr McMurray was appointed in January 2006 and re-appointed from January 2009.

USEL is a Non-Departmental Public Body which was established in 1962 under the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act (NI) 1945 to provide employment for severely disabled people. The Department for Employment and Learning is the sponsoring department for USEL.

USEL has operated Londonderry’s city centre CCTV contract for the last decade. It also has a manufacturing operation in North Belfast which produces bedding and industrial sewing and employs over 60 people, most of whom have a disability.

USEL also operates a number of employment programmes on behalf of the Department. These programmes include Employment Support, Workable (NI) and Steps to Work.

Mr Brian McMurray has been involved as a Chief Executive in several major private sector companies - most notably Rank Hovis McDougall, Courtaulds Textiles, Moygashel Linens and latterly Abbicoil Springs. Mr McMurray is the Director of Action Mental Health and Chairman of Roe Valley Enterprise Agency.

He also holds one public appointment as a Non-Executive Director of Business Services Organisation.

Mr McMurray was previously a Non-Executive Director of the former Causeway Trust and a Business Mentor with Invest Northern Ireland.
