Roger Casement and Bradshaw from Ballymoney

One of the three men was the son of a railwayman from Ballymoney and Maureen will reveal the amazing circumstances that brought the famous historical figure of Roger Casement to their aid.

March 2015 marks the centenary of another important chapter in Casement’s life when he negotiated the release of three Irishmen from First World War internment camps in Germany – one of whom was John Patrick Bradshaw, from Charlotte Street, Ballymoney.

Casement succeeded in securing the release of John Patrick Bradshaw of Ballymoney, Gerald Hoy from Dungannon, Co. Tyrone, and William Coyne from Co. Mayo in March 1915.

The extraordinary story of Casement and the Irish internees has been researched by Maureen Waugh, granddaughter of Gerald Hoy, one of the three internees, and she will be in Ballymoney on Tuesday, 24 March to reveal the amazing details of this exciting and, ultimately, tragic story.
