Ross appointed to Justice Committee at Stormont

EAST Antrim MLA Alastair Ross has been appointed to the new Justice Committee at Stormont following the transfer of policing and justice powers to the Assembly.

The DUP’s Lord Morrow will be the new Chairman of the Committee and party colleagues Jeffrey Donaldson and Jonathan Bell will serve alongside Mr Ross.

Commenting, Mr Ross said: “For the past 38 years Northern Ireland did not have its own Justice Minister, so the decision by the Assembly to transfer these powers back from Westminster means in essence that devolution is complete.

“Whilst we may all have political differences with David Ford it was significant that he garnered cross-community support from the Assembly on Monday, and I wish him well in his important new role.

“As a committee we will be scrutinising the Minister and Department, and ensuring that all decisions taken will be in the best interests of people in Northern Ireland.”
